How to add categories to register form

  • Hi guys,

    I’m trying to create a website about establishing contacts between students and teachers. While teachers are being registered I want them to select the category from a dropdown menu which is about the lessons they want to tutor. I have already defined categories in the posts section.

    In addition to that I want to do same thing for the cities of teachers. But I did not define ant category for cities. Should I define categories for cities?

    I looked at many plugins, you can add dropdown menu but cant add categories directly.

    How can I insert those categories, and the city that teachers live in?

    I’m a non-techie. Is there any plugin or theme that may help me out? Or any help will be most welcome.

    Not sure why you are adding categories for posts. Those categories refer to the blog posts.

    If you are trying to register users there are many plugins for creating custom registration forms.

    There are also many themes available for education and tutoring. ThemeForest.net is a good place to look.

    If you can find a theme that offers all the features you need, great. If not, there may be some custom coding involved to create the features you need. If that’s the case, I would suggest finding a web designer who works in WordPress. This may be more complicated than you think.

    I understand, But I want to learn in this way and improve my knowledge.

    You’re right, there are lots of plugins including custom fields. However, as far as I see, none of them uses a predefined field or table.

    Maybe I must change my question: Is there anyway to define, eg, the cities in a country, somewhere else, then using that data in a dropbox field whereever I want to put (Maybe I can call that data, not sure). Regarding my original question, if I can define a data set like this, can I use this in registration form or profile form.

    Any help will be most appreciated.
