    Hi,

I am using ultimate member profile tabs for a dieting website. Dieters have their public profile, which is visible to other people. However, I wanted a private tab that displays more personal information such as their weight loss membership plan (just simple text fields)

How do I edit this tab, to display information that is not pulled in from the profile tab? I just need the tab to display some text fields.

    Thanks,
    Enney

    Hi there!

You can not edit the tab content area per user. If you want to show custom content to each user, you should create a field in the UM Form Builder and set the privacy visible to admins only. Then you can use our shortcode to display the content of the field on your new tab. If I understand you correctly, this is what you’re looking for.

Hope that answers your question. If you’re still unsure, don’t hesitate to ask.

Hi, thanks for getting back. I tried doing that. I created a new profile form, with a new short code ID, put the short code into the profile tab, but it won’t load. It comes up with a page not found error. Then if i remove the short code, the tab loads just fine (albeit empty as then there is nothing in there).

I have set the default profile tab to the “about” one, but

You shouldn’t add the form shortcode in the tab content area. You must add the field shortcode (from our plugin) in the content area. The field must be created in the original form – no need to add a new form.

So, say you created a field with meta key membership_plan in the default profile form, then you add the following shortcode to the tab content area:

    [pp-tabs field=membership_plan label=1]

Let me know if this works for you.

    Hi,

Thanks for getting back again. That only works if I am pulling in fields that are already in the “about” tab i.e. main profile.

I tried creating some new fields that are not showing in the ‘about’ tab, but they don’t show.

Here’s how we recommend you use the shortcode – add a field in the default form, then set the visibily to “edit mode only”. Then you can edit the value there in normal edit mode, and then you display the value using our shortcode.

    When you say

creating some new fields that are not showing in the ‘about’ tab

do you mean you are creating the fields in a new form or just hiding them using the visibility option? Like I said above, you should add it in the default form and then “hide” it using the visibility setting.

Hi – yes, that works ?? thanks so much for your help ??

Great! Glad you got it working. ??

it is unclear to me how to use this plugin.

i have managed to create a new tab. it only shows up as its own tab if i make it the Default Tab in the UM settings.

even if i do that (i’d rather Not have it as the default tab), i can’t seem to add an editable field to the new tab for users to add their info.
the fields that i create instead show up under the “About” tab.

is this plugin meant to do something other than what i imagined??
i’ve read everything in the support forum. maybe there is something really obvious that i am missing?

    Hi there.

It seems you are misunderstanding how the plugin works. You can not edit fields in tabs other than the default “about” tab. That is how UM works. We cannot change this.

You can only display fields in tabs created with this plugin. To do so, you have to use the shortcode as mentioned above. If you do not want the field to appear in both the “about” tab and the custom tab, set the visibility to “edit mode only” in the form builder.

    Hope that makes it clearer.

PS. Please do not comment on a resolved thread – rather open a new one.

thank you for the explanation. sorry for the forum faux pas!
