How to add Meta Tag for Description

The best way of doing this would be to use an SEO plugin rather than directly adding it to the theme. Use something like Yoast. Here’s a guide on how to specifically set up what you’re after. Be sure to read their article on how to write a good meta description.

I noticed that Yoast doesn’t let you add meta keywords, is there a separate plugin I could install for that?

Yoast does, but it’s disabled by default as Meta Keywords as it’s not really for SEO. Regardless, to enable it please navigate to WP Admin > SEO > Titles & Metas and open the Other tab. Enable the “Use meta keywords tag?” (ref)
