  • Upload pdf file to whichever file you want on your host (this can be done through cPanel or an ftp program).

Once this is done, you can use the link icon on the WP editor to make it available for download.

    Is this helpful?

Or you can just add the PDF mime type, and use the media uploader.

If you have no idea what i’m talking about you may find the link approach suggested above much easier..

If you’re curious enough to want to know more, here’s some related information on what mime types are.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIME
    https://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/

In short, mime types refer to how particular file extensions are handled, WordPress has a whitelist of allowed types, and it is possible to extend this list to support types other then the defaults.

Or, if you want to upload a PDF file in your Write Panel, click on the starburst – 4th from the left in this image

    then follow instructions here
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Media_Add_New_SubPanel#Upload_New_Media

Is it already a supported mime? If so, you only need use the media uploader, then insert it into a post the same way you would an image, it can selectively link to the attachment page or the file..

    I don’t use PDF, so i wouldn’t know… ??

Works fine for .php and .phps files for me though… (parsed as text of course)..

hi t31os, yes PDF is supported by default

In that case, it’s a matter of just clicking “Add media”.. ??

I have uploaded a long pdf three times, and each time it comes up with errors of format – “cannot extract font DCLGAE+Arila, Italic..” etc. The PDF file opens perfectly from my computer drive directly – how can I get the file into WP correctly so that I can link to it? (IF FTP, then can you indicate the fastest ft program to learn to use and do it?)

I am having the same sort of problem. I wish to make a pdf available for download and I can’t see how to do it. I’ve up loaded via ftp as suggested (to uploads) but cannot see it through any media or link editor.

Does anyone know if is there a problem with PDF and DOC upload on WP 3.0?

I used do upload these files to my server without problems on Wp 2.6, 2.8 adn 2.9.

Now with WP 3.0 I can send the file (it’s on the upload folder) but can’t add it to the post. The upload dialog doesn’t show the link to the file only this error message:

“Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /wp-admin/includes/media.php on line 1205
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /wp-admin/includes/media.php on line 1302″

The problem happens too on the media section wp-admin/media.php…& action=edit

Can it be caused by some server configuration?

    lipsk,

were you able to fix your issue?
I am having the same issue on WP 3.01 and it definitely is an issue with the new release

    Hi fas.khan,

The problem was the plugin magic-fields 1.5 and WP 3.0.1.
I found out on the plugin forum that many people had the same issue.
    It was my case.
I deactivated it and I could insert pdf into the posts again.

But there also a fix on the forum:
    https://groups.google.com/group/magic-fields/browse_thread/thread/e4f19adbdf3afa5b?pli=1

I didn’t try the fix yet.
