how to add 'read more' below my post's???

    im new to this wordpress thing.after installing wordpress on my server i activated a theme and this theme has a problem.there is no ‘read more’ button and it shows the entire text of my posts which is really look bad.

    if anyone can help me how should i add a ‘read more’ button below every post please reply.
    (my site link is https://www.sadhinotablog.co.cc | its not in english but you’ll see there is no read more button)

  • click on posts and select a post and click edit

    when you have your post in editor left click on place where you want the read more link
    when you see the courser flashing press Alt+Shift+T
    You will have line with More at end
    publish

    Now if you see the post it will have continue reading link

    but i cant see any courser flashing thing on the post editor after having a left click where i wanted ‘read more’ button. when i clicked the ‘Alt+Shift+T’ i think its for making my post text ‘right align’ because
    ‘right align’ button gets activated when i press ‘Alt+Shift+T’

    since you using your keyboard with another language the keys must have been changed.

    In your wordpress editor fifth icon from right just before unlink icon is the one that will put read more link in the post.

    oh there was a mistake.i pressed the wrong key so didnt work.
    but now i can see ‘Read the rest of this entry’ below the post i edited.
    but i want ‘Read the rest of this entry’ automatically below every post without doing this (what you said) after showing 3 or 4 lines of post.

    and i want that option because that blog im making is going to be a public blog where all people are allowed to post.and i think people are not going to do that to add ‘Read the rest of this entry’ and they just
    publish it and it will look bad..

    im facing another problem govpatel.its about registration.i checked it ‘anyone can register’ and in the registration process password is not being sent to mail i entered.but it shows ‘check your mail for password’ after clicking register button.even i double checked my mail inbox and spam box(i used gmail).

    I have been trying to achieve a similar outcome with “read More” etc

    I have done as Govpatel suggested and have achieved read more in visual edit but when I have updated I return to the web page I find nothing has changed.

    I have also been try various other thing but not getting any change to the web site

    My problems are new item on forum “Problem editing web pages”

    Here’s how i did that.
    first go to theme editor for editing ‘Main Index Template
    (index.php) then find the following code>>>

    ‘the_content()
    and change it to
    the_excerpt()
    That’s it

    Tried what you said but could not find ‘the_content() i guess this would only be for the main page I have created some additional pages.
    I tried having a look there but found similar code with the word “content” and changed to “excerpt” but still no change.

    Eventually went back to the original source and copied part of the article and pasted in visual and repeated for the 2nd half of article now the article shows fully

    Still other prob’ to sort out
