How to add text and logo to white space above header

    Hi. I am completely new to WordPress and I am not a designer or programmer so forgive me if I sound facile. What I would like to do is add some text to the right of my logo so it doesn’t look so lost in that sea of white above the header with the image. Is there a way to do this?

    Also I don’t know how to use child theme so I guess I need to learn how to do that since I have been slowly customizing this theme to suit my needs with bits of code found on the forums.
