How to add user name next to gravitar

Hi,
Is there a way to have the users name appear next to their gravitar in the ajax form after they have logged in, at the moment if they don’t have a gravitar you get the default grey person and the ‘log out’ text.
Apologies if this is a really basic question, have done a thorough search and can’t find the answer to this, am a real newcomer to this. Many thanks.
