How to automatically number default gallery images

Is there a plugin that will automatically number the images on the front end of the wordpress default gallery feature?

Here is my issue. I have a client that wants to post every single image of his work on the website. Now that we are at hundreds of pictures it is hard for his clients to describe what photo they are referring to.

For instance if you look at this page https://armorfenceandmasonry.com/wrought-iron/ you will see it is just a long page of images with no descriptions.

All I want is for the images to be numbered.
