• I am about to update to v3.8 from 3.7.1, but I want to back up my database first (a habitual practice of mine lol). My new host provider has a newer version of phpadmin, than what my previous host provider had – which appears quite different. After looking over your documentation for backing up the database (on an older version of phpadmin) for the WP Blog application, I compared the ‘checks/ticks’ in your images to what I see in my phpadmin – which is version 4.0.5. I *think* I am ‘marking/ticking/checking’ and removing checks on the right things? I’ve linked to an image of a screen shot of my phpadmin “export” database settings, so you can see what I am referring to. I’ve marked/checked the areas I assume are what’s needed … are these correct? or do I need more, or less, marked/marked off?

Thank you SO much~! Your assistance will be GREATLY appreciated~!

  • Easiest way to backup a database is to use the “WordPress Database Backup” plug-in .. been using it for years .. simple .. and it works.

Thank you so much fireQuartz. I really appreciate the suggestion~! I’ve actually considered using it, a while back; but since I’m always backing up my (other) databases weekly/monthly, I just prefer to do it all through phpadmin (while I’m already in there, backing up the others) – “nip ’em in the bud, all at once”. lol I might try that plug-in, though.

That’s the best part of the plug-in! You can set it to automatically backup hourly, daily, or weekly ..

fireQuartz makes the best suggestion in my opinion. That particular plugin is awesome.

    You’re almost there with exporting:
Personally, I just make all of those tables are highlighted blue in the “checklist”, and then click ‘go’ without touching any of the other settings (just leave them default)

The ‘Quick’ Export normally suffices for me.
