• I would like to build a wordpress website for my company but keep my current website up and running in the mean time. Is this possible? If so how do I go about doing this without disturbing the original?

  • You could either setup a subdirectory on the current domain and install WordPress through that or you could also setup a subdomain if your hosting account allows for it and develop on there.

If neither of those options is available you also have the option of installing software like WAMPSERVER (windows) or MAMP (mac) to install WP on your own computer and work from there.

I’m thinking exactly the same thing. If I create all files and urls with custom urls will they work if I simply move wordpress to the root to replace the old site? If not, is there a checklist somewhere of things to do in this process? (This is so obviously a popular thing to do, you would think there was one somewhere but I haven’t been able to find it.)

There is a whole codex article in regards to moving WordPress – https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress
