I am quite new to WP, and though I have spent the last or so getting my head around visually getting a site into shape, I have not really delved into permissions and levels of members etc.

I am wondering if it will be possible to use WP to build an educational site which has a specific function:

Videos of students’ presentations are put on a page (easy enough to do), and other students in the class then watch the videos and submit feedback on the performance. The following points are important:

    – other students must not be able to read any previous comments, so as not to influence their own opinion.
    – the student featured in the video must be able to read all comments, but must not know the identity of the writers.
    – I (as site admin and the teacher) need to be able to see all the comments, and know who wrote them.

Is this ‘showing and hiding’ comments depending on the user something can be done ‘off-the-shelf’, or will I need to use some kind of plugin?

Your requirements would probably need a plugin or at least, changes to your theme.

Assuming that the ‘student featured’ is the post author you could hide the comments from all but the post author.

When displaying your comments to the ‘student featured’, you could display the comments without any information regarding the comments origin.

Of course, as the blog owner, you could see or do anything to the comments and posts.
