• I have looked through this forum and the codex for answers to this question and have not found one. I am using Word Press to handle and archive news on a site. I am using a two column layout with “news” column smaller than the other column. When some one clicks read more or on the post on the index page I would like the article to be in one column or change the layout of the actual page. I can’t seem to find out how to do it. Any ideas. It seems that the index page is used as a template for all blog entries? Sorry if this has been discussed, but I can’t seem to find any answers.
    Thanks for any help.
    Dave

  • What version of WordPress are you using? If it’s 1.5 and you’re using themes, you can set up a single.php for that theme, and design your layout in this.

1.2 would be a bit more work, but not impossible.

Thanks for your response. I am using 1.5. If I built the single.php page would I get Word Press to use that page in the advanced editing and custom fields when I write the post? I guess my question is how do I have the two column index and a different layout for the posts using the other page? Sorry if it is simple. I appreciate you answering my question.

single.php is used in a theme A. when it exists, and B. for single post pages. When
you go to an individual post, your page will display in whatever layout specified in single.php

The edit features of your admin pages don’t care what “page” or file is being used to display post content.

THanks so much I am new to all this. I really thank you for taking the time to explain that.

Just wanted to say thanks again! How did I miss that in the codex? Thanks again so much.
