How to change background colour in sidebar (Twenty Eleven)?

    I would like to change the background colour of the sidebar in my Twenty Eleven theme to black (I’m using the dark scheme). I adjusted the colour in custom css, and it changed the colour behind the widgets, but not the entire sidebar. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!
