How to change categories layout

So does anyone know how to do this? I’m sure it is something very simple.

You need to edit the relevant theme template file (sidebar.php?) and replace wp_dropdown_categories with wp_list_categories.

Actually there is no mention of dropdown lists in the sidebar.php? from the template and the theme doesn’t use them. I think this is something I have set in my settings but don’t know how to change it back. It is applying it to all the themes I activate. Any ideas?

In case anyone else gets stuck on this, I finally found the answer. It is just a tick box in the widgits settings. Untick dropdown option. I knew it was something simple.
