• I signed up for a web host so I could use www.ads-software.com, and bought a wordpress template through an external website.

I assumed I would be able to change the photos, headings, etc. on the template as easily as I did when I was using wordpress.com to host my blog.

    Apparently not.

I don’t know anything about coding or programming but can follow instructions fairly easily. So if you can tell me how to change these things that would be great. (If it requires someone with advanced knowledge of wordpress coding please let me know that too.)

    Thanks,
    Emma

As this is a commercial theme, we cannot really help. You need to seek support from the theme vendors.

OK thanks, I have sent them a request.

Just so I can understand this better,

On careercreatrix.wordpress.com I use the Tarski theme and it was very easy to change the header photo, on the dashboard Appearance -> Header.

So now I have this new website (www.emmastangl.com) with a web host and downloaded through www.ads-software.com.

As mentioned above, I downloaded a templatesold template and don’t see a way to change header photo/text.

However, just to try it, I just selected and activated a FREE www.ads-software.com theme (Codium 1.0.9) onto emmastangl.com and on this template there IS a place to change the header photo!

    Two questions:

    1) Is it this easy (as it was with Codium) to change the header photo on all FREE www.ads-software.com templates?

    2) What about the PAID template providers that are listed on www.ads-software.com? Does anyone know if those templates typically have the option to change header photos, text, footers etc. without coding? Or will I have to contact those designers to find out?

I would think it depends on the template designer, but from my experience most paid templates have their own custom backend to make these types of changes to the theme.

I would recommend trying a free template available from one of the paid sites to see if their themes work for you. For example I know that woothemes provides free templates that you could try out before buying one.

There are more and more paid frameworks that allow you full customization without having to know any coding. Headway, for example, has a completely drag and drop interface.

Most themes I have seen require you to edit header.php or footer.php to change the header or footer code.

This can be done through wp admin -> appearance -> editor.

Then select the file needing editing.

one option is to create a widget area and then place the text widget for adding html code.

This is done by adding a dynamic sidebar to the php file where you want the widgets to go. See the link below for instructions how to…
