Hi all I have an installation in mydomain.com/myfolder/ I want to move the installation to mydomain.com

Can I just move the folders:
    wp-admin
    wp-content
    wp-includes

from myfolder to mydomain.com root? Will that work? Thank you

Thanks that looks like the way to do that, however, I am wondering whether it would jst be simpler to reinstall wp as I don’t have any posts at the moment. If I was to unistall and resintall then I am worried about the 4 folders of content and 5 php files I have in the site root that I don’t want to overwrite when I reinstall wp. Will they be unaffected if I install wp in the site root? Thanks

    Hi Copywrite:

Just check the names of the existing files in your route directory to make sure they’re not the same as any WP files.

The likely hood is pretty slim …ones to check for though are index.php, which WP uses.

Assuming you have no directory or file name conflicts, you should be find in the new install. (and yes, it’s simpler and easier to re-install if you have no posts etc than to move an existing install)

    Good luck

Back them up first. If they don’t have the same names as WP files or folders, they won’t be deleted.

OK that is good news thanks, I’ll delete the already installed wp files and install the new version.
First I’ll block off access to the index page, it only seems to give me options to make posts private not my main index page which is important. Where can I find how to make my index page private? Thanks
