How to change links color only in the footer?

Hello, I have a white background for the content area and a dark one for the footer of my site. So, the styles of links have to be different depending on their whereabouts.
The global link color in the style settings in the editor is set to black.
I tried to change the color only for the footer, editing only footers’ part of the template and setting it to white, but it changes all the links in the content area too, so that they become white and therefore invisible…
What can be done about it?
