I’m sorry, but on this site https://www.ads-software.com/ due to valid technical reasons there is no way to delete or change user IDs here.

It is not that we are being obtuse or difficult or that we do not want to delete or change your user ID. But due to the way that the different systems are connected on that site we are (painfully!) aware that it breaks many things. It has been attempted in the past.

Well that just, with all due respect, sucks.
Not that it’s just inconvenient but there’s also privacy issues.
I, as a DB admin, can tell you that clinging on to username instead of the user ID is just bad coding.

It is what it is.

As there’s 11,264,813 registered users at this moment, tying into SVN, Media Wiki, Multiple instances of WordPress, many different sub-forums, all of the make/wordpress blogs, I’ll have to take your word for that it’s a simple as a DB edit.

As I wrote above, it’s been tried before and the integrations broke and did horrible things.

Please don’t patronize me. I never said it’s simple nor that solving the issue requires just a DB edit.
What I did say it it’s bad coding and it certainly isn’t well thought out approach to tie users to their username instead to an ID.
And you didn’t even bothered with a reply to my privacy remark.
You see, in my case, I was foolish enough to have my name as a username.

If you want to make a new account with a new username, then you can do so, and then abandon your old account. This is the only way to “change” usernames.

Not a hack, simple fact. Usernames cannot be changed here because they are used to bridge multiple systems. Usernames are tied to not just WordPress, but to the SVN, Trac, and Wikimedia (in the form of the codex). Changing a username breaks those connections.

As we move more parts into WordPress proper, then changing this may become available in the future, but for now, because the username connects these multiple types of systems, then it cannot be changed. If you want a new username, create a new account.
