• Hey guys and gals,

I have a question that must have been asked quite a few times but I was not lucky enough to find a simple enough answer. Answers either concern certain major development techniques or multisite or something similar.

I have a hosting account with Asmallorange where I installed wordpress. I set up my site and used a domain that I had lying arround with GoDaddy. All of the sites content, permalinks etc. are formed accordingly.

Now however, I wish to purchase a new domain and replace this one with the new one and KEEP all permalinks and stuff on the site unbroken. I am not worried about outside links pointing to the site because nobody knows about it yet so I suppose there are none.

    My question:

How do I change Example.com to Example1.com and not lose anything on the site? I am not an IT guy but a marketing man and beyond using cPanel, WordPress and basic FTP I know very little outside of this.

    Thank you in advance!
    Alex

P.S. A colleague of mine who knows some IT stuff told me that if WordPress creates relative links I will be OK, but if it makes absolute links than Im screwed?

Normally, WP builds it’s links based on the site url you entered in the general setting. A good theme will create links relative to that url.

Links inside your content, I’m not sure about. I don’t think they will, so you’ll have to check and alter when necessary.
