• I’m developing an ebook site using virtue theme and woocommerce and I want to customize URLs of products and product categories. For example when I add an ebook to “Technology” category it gives an URL like ‘https://localhost/wordpress/product-category/technology/’. All the things are fine but I don’t want the ‘product-category’ part in my URL. I want to delete that part or change it to something like ‘ebook-category’. So how can I do this? Is there no way to change default URLs given for product category and product pages?

  • Hey,
You can’t remove it because of url conflicts but you can change it. In your settings > permalinks. There are options for both category and product url changes.

Thanks for the reply! Can you please confirm this?

This is the product link –
    https://localhost/wordpress/ebooks/technology/about-a-mountain/

This is the category link –
    https://localhost/wordpress/ebook-category/technology/

“Technology” is the category. But I get it through different URL formats (through ebooks and ebook-category). So you mean there is no way that I can get category “technology” through same URL formats?

And if woocommerce is not supporting this, does Virtue theme support other ecommerce solutions like bigcommerce, magento etc so I can try with them?

    Hey,
That is correct. The category is a custom taxonomy and the post is a custom post type. They can’t share the same url slug. The item that is first after the site url.

It’s possible someone has come up with a hack for this but I’m not aware of it and I know that standard WordPress this is how it works. But might be worth it for you to contact woocommerce support and see if they know of anything.

Bigcommerce and Magento are different frameworks. (not WordPress) so you can’t use the Virtue theme (a WordPress theme) on those frameworks.

In terms of options for ecommerce using WordPress Woocommerce is in our opinion above and beyond every other plugin option.
