Hi guys, I’m having a problem to find the way to change the default template for posts from ‘Single’ to ‘Single with sidebar’. Could you please give an advise?

thank you. As I understand it will be applied only to one post. Or to all existing and new ones as well?

so, yes, I’ve double checked. changing a template on one post – does not change it for all of them.

    @romwill ,

Yes, the setting only affect that specific post.

If you have a lot of posts to change, you can use the ‘Quick Edit’ on the ‘All Posts’ pages and you should be able to change it faster.

    Hope this helps!

    right, thank you.

but i have a few hundreds posts to import. so I really looking for the solution to change global settings so a “single with sidebar” template will be set as default

Have you checked this post? May or may not be helpful – Not sure what your source theme is, but the process could be similar to what this post discusses.

Hey @romwill! You can edit the Single with sidebar template, select and copy all blocks, then edit the default Single template to paste all the blocks there. You will also be able to make any other changes in there while you do this.

Bulk changing the default post template: There is a reasonably easy way to do this task. Go to the Posts Page, bulk select all posts using ‘Title’, click ‘Bulk action’ → ‘Edit’ in the drop-down list, then ‘Apply’, in the ‘Bulk Edit’ menu that pops up select the ‘Template’ drop-down on the right-hand side. Choose the template and click the ‘Update’ button. Voila! I went through 23 pages in 10 minutes. Good luck.

I have the same question as @romwill .

I want to keep single post template as it is, and create a custom template( named 2024-Post).

How could I set the 2024-template to be the default template of Add New Post ?

I also use Block Theme : TWENTY TWENTY FOUR

    Thanks.

    Hi @captainlin and @romwill,

You can click on add new template and then select all posts as shown here: https://d.pr/i/z62yAO

The next time you add a new post, the new template will be the default one: https://d.pr/i/bcJ9Qk

This seems to be ridiculous. Are WP seriously expecting us to believe that if you create a template and, say, a custom post type that the only time you can associate that template with the post type is when you create it?

I’s also ridiculous that when you try to switch templates you don’t get to see all the templates, sometimes, just one. Select that and try again and you’ll get a different one (and not the original one either), or may three this time.

With just 6 weeks to go before the theme 2025 hits us it looks like there’s still a huge amount of work to be done here yet, from what I’ve read of their plans for 2025 (as of 3 weeks ago), it seems they’re more interested in being Woke than being usable.

So tell me, how do I attach a template to a custom post type?
