Yes, that is correct. That way, when you come to the page, you’ll immediately see the most upcoming events (or future ones) on the top while the events that have already past will be on the bottom of the page. Is this possible with shortcodes? Thanks again!

Definitely “possible” but not out-of-the-box, I’m afraid – it would require some customization work to implement this.

The Events Calendar already does something a little like this when it integrates events with the main blog loop and conceivably you could re-purpose some of that logic and apply it to usages of the event embed shortcode (and you could probably do this without directly modifying either), however it would definitely be a more advanced customization than most.
