How To Change the "you are subscribed" message

Hi, I am using the Glass theme, and for the subscribe form at the bottom, I would like to change the message that appears after subscribe button is hit. The list is integrated with mailchimp and I have the list set for double-optin, so subscribers will receive an email to confirm their subscription.
So seeing the message “Thanks you are subscribed” needs to be changed to “Thanks for subscribing. Please check your inbox”.
As there is no option in the settings to change the message, I found the php page that houses the thank you message (class-admin-options.php). I changed the message and re-uploaded the page, and signed up again. But, the same original message still appeared. I then cleared my browser cache, and after two more goes I still see the same message.
How can I successfully change the message?
