In the “User Accounts” option, “Admin User Security” says “This feature will allow you to change your default “admin” user name to a more secure name of your choosing.”

Although my default user name is “user” instead of “admin”, but still getting “Brute Force Login Attacks” warning.

I was able to change my default user name in my earlier installed wp multisite, but can not find anywhere to do this in my newly installed instance.

Is it still possible to change my default user name “user”, how should I do?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Have you enabled one of the Brute Force features like Rename Login Page?

    Thank you

    Hi @mbrsolution

    Yes, I did.

I had tried to uncheck Rename Login Page, but still got “Usernames cannot be changed.”

My site is built using Bitnami service, they moved .htaccess file to /conf/htaccess.conf file, will that be the problem?

    Thanks

Hi, are you talking about a site built locally in your computer/laptop using Xampp or something similar?

No, it’s a installation service on GCP, you can refer to their Understand Default .Htaccess File Configuration

Hi, have you tried creating a new user name?

    Hi @mbrsolution

I could Add New User without any problem, and change the Display Name.

But no username can be changed after click “edit user”, you will see “Usernames cannot be changed” in the user profile page.

    Thanks

    Hi,

But no username can be changed after click “edit user”, you will see “Usernames cannot be changed” in the user profile page.

That is correct, that is how WordPress works. Once you create a new username you will not be able to change the username. The only option is to create a new one.

    Hi @mbrsolution

It’s kind of strange, I was able to change the username in my earlier installation, but not in this new installation.

    Does there something I miss…

    Thanks

I don’t think you changed the username via the admin area because this name is greyed out.

No you did not miss anything. It is designed like this for security reasons.

    Kind regards
