How to choose which image is used when sharing on Facebook

If I’m on Facebook on my computer and in my status update, I type “www.mrballoonguy.com” and hit enter, it gives me several images to choose from but none of these have the silouette guy as an option. So why is the silouette guy image used on a mobile when sharing?

read about og:image tag of facebook. you can specify a image under this tag to be picked as sharing image.

I did find a few plugins that allow you to control which image FB uses but apparently they conflict with SEO Yoast because they too use “Open Graph Protocol”.

just disable the social feature in SEO Yoast, it is useless as didnt worked for me anyways.

Thanks for your help laliz. I added the below code to the head section of the header.php.

In Yoast > Social, I unchecked the box for “Add Open Graph meta data”.

I installed the plugin you suggested.

But it’s still not loading the about-us-home-page.jpg photo.

In the plugin, I have Default image: set to https://mrbgandfriends.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/about-us-home-page.jpg but it still loads the sillouette guy in stead of the image of Jerry holding the balloon.

Please define a chosen image using the og:image metatag, and use an image that’s at least 200x200px and is accessible from Facebook. Image ‘https://mrbgandfriends.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Slider3-Home-Page1.jpg&#8217; will be used instead.

When you share on a computer, the above image is used (which is fine).

The problem I’m having when I share using my phone, I am not getting the above image or any other image from my homepage…I’m getting a sillouette image that is no longer on my server.

Any idea where / how it’s pulling this icon to use as the image?

I just uploaded a larger image to wordpress and in the plugin settings, assigned the image to the new larger image but it’s still loading the icon image when sharing on a mobile device.

I even uploaded an even larger image https://mrbgandfriends.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/red-balloon.jpg but that does not work either.

How is the OG:image not defined when I have this in the header.php under the Head Section

where are you uploading this image? in some plugin?

facebook debuggin tool is displaying og:image being declared twice.this can be a problem too. also do “fetch new scrape Information” in debugger page.

keep experimenting with the debuggin tool, i had used a plugin which worked for most of my client’s websites, let me see if i can locate it.

ok, we are using same plugin by webdados for facebook Open graph . what you should do is edit home page and below the editor you will see a box to upload image with title “facebook open graph, google+ and twitter” upload desired image here.

this setup currently works for few of our websites , i hope this will work for you too. also remove any HTML codes you might have added for og:image (my understanding is if we specify more than one og:image with different images then we get all images as option to choose from when sharing in facebook)

At one point, I had added the og:image meta tag manually by adding it to the header.php page in the head section. Then when I installed the plugin you suggested, I added it there as well, which is why the debugger was showing it was listed twice.

I have removed the code from the header.php page and now I only have it added through the plugin you suggested.

Can you run the debugger again? You will see there are no errors. The image is loading when I share from my computer but I’m still not getting the image to load when viewing on a mobile device. I’ve even deleted my cache and cookies on my phone but it still is not changing.

dubugger loads up fine now, how are you checking on Mobile? your website has any link to share to facebook or you are typing url in facebook app on mobile?
