I am the owner of a very basic WooCommerce site, and I am facing an issue that needs assistance. If I go to the site admin feature to modify a product or feature of a product, etc. I want to be able to clear any customer orders that have not been submitted fully for processing. I had a situation where a customer had a product in her cart based on accessing the site over two weeks ago. I have since made changes to that product the makes the product in that person cart no longer correct. What steps can I take to flush all incomplete cart orders so that if the customer comes back to the site at a later time to finalize their order, they are forced to reselect the current product with all updates that have been applied.

I do see some tools under the WooCommerce setting page, but the information provided for each of these options is not clear to me.

Any help or guidance will be appreciated. A supported plugin that may help to resolve this would also be considered but our goal is to keep the site as lean as possible for plugins, etc.

I am quite curious as to how this issue happens on your site as I was unable to replicate it on my personal site. I’ve added a product to my cart and tried to modify it while that product is still in my cart. I was able to see the updated version of my product.

Could you please provide us with a clear screenshot of what you’re seeing on your end? This will help us better understand your situation and address your concerns more effectively.

If you don’t already have a screenshot service installed, you can try https://snipboard.io. You can share the direct link to the image as a response to this topic.

Furthermore, I’d like to understand your site properly. Please share with us the necessary information below for us to investigate the issue further:

    • System Status Report which you can find via WooCommerce > Status > Get system report > Copy for support.
    • Fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs.

You could copy and paste your reply here or paste it via https://gist.github.com/ and send the link here.

Once we have more information, we’ll be able to assist you further.

I understand that you would like to clear the customer’s carts and sessions automatically since the outdated version of a product is showing on your customer’s end.

In this case, please navigate to WooCommerce > Status > Tools > Clear customer sessions > Clear. Kindly note that this tool will delete all customer session data from the database, including current carts and saved carts in the database.

    Hope this helps!

So I may have been unclear with the situation i was describing. to clarify, If a customer has a saved cart that was created a week ago, and now our site admin removed that product from availability, or the product has a date field associated with the product being purchase, ie. a scheduled future class date, and now we have cancelled that product. How do we ensure that any carts that may have been saved prior to the change are all cleared and force the customer to re add the product with appropriate update info to a new cart? The clear sessions tool appears to be the option we need to use but based on your explanation of that it would appear that this would also clear and current carts in progress. Is there a simple tool we can use to see all saved carts or in progress carts so we can determine this exposure?

    Hi @jpennuto,

To manage the situation you’re describing, you’re correct that the clear sessions tool would clear all saved carts, including those currently in progress. Unfortunately, there isn’t a built-in tool within WooCommerce that allows you to view all saved or in-progress carts.

However, there are third-party plugins available that can provide this functionality. One such plugin is WooCommerce Cart Reports, which gives you visibility into your customers’ carts, both completed and in progress.

As for ensuring that carts saved before a product change are cleared, this is a bit more complex. There isn’t a built-in feature for this in WooCommerce. However, you could potentially use a custom function to empty the cart after a certain period automatically. This would require some custom coding, and you might want to consider hiring a developer if you’re uncomfortable with coding.

I hope this provides some clarity. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Hi there, I have an issue where I have set the Hold stock (minutes) to 60 min. (Hold stock (for unpaid orders) for x minutes. When this limit is reached, the pending order will be cancelled. Leave blank to disable.), however the clients carts do not get cleared after 60 minutes and the items are not returned to stock after 60 minutes.

As my store offers many unique items where the stock is just 1, it is imperative that the cart does not hold inventory for more than 60 min. Is there another setting for this, or something is not functioning correctly for my site?

    Thank you and kind regards,
    Dessislava
