• Hi,

I am not sure if the title is clear. I want to make my blog https://globalpioneering.com/wp02/ no longer available to public viewing because I noticed that almost all old posts have been infected with spam and I also I won’t be able to post for a while. I first thought of closing the comments but now I want to remove the blog but not delete the posts so that in the future if I want to refer to the articles I can find them. Is this possible? I would greatly appreciate help on this. Thank you. What I mean is that some posts may be valuable to me in the future and I don’t want to lose them, but I don’t want the blog to be online and filled with spam comments. Something like making posts private as in wordpress.com would be very helpful. Thanks again.

  • There are a lot of things you can do, here are just three

    1. You can rename the directory until such time as youre able to “take care of things”, When you want it to “be back” you rename the directory to wp02

    2. You can use an mod_rewrite rule to redirect everyone that tries to hit wp02 to your main site

    3. You can delete the files inside wp02 .. your posts are stored inside your MySQL database and have nothing to do with whether or not content is displayed.

You indicate your site is already compromised. why leave files up that are compromised?? Making posts private may or more importantly, may not save the rest of the Internet — as compromised sites are commonly used for springboards from which to attack other sites.

Do the rest of us a favor, and if you cannot take care of your site, save your wp-config.php locally on your own pc and delete all the WP files of your site. When youre ready to take care of it, you can simply upload the version you had been using, put your saved wp-config.php back, and go through the process of taking care of your site, like a good web-citizen (upgrading, being the first step).

Thanks for your reply. I have two more questions. Can I transfer this blog as is to wordpress.com?

And to back up the content which folder do I need to copy to my computer?
