Prefer to stick with the familiar Classic Editor? No problem! The Classic Editor plugin restores the previous WordPress editor and the Edit Post screen. It lets you keep using plugins that extend it, add old-style meta boxes, or otherwise depend on the previous editor. To install, visit your plugins page and click the “Install Now” button next to “Classic Editor”. After the plugin finishes installing, click “Activate”. That’s it!

I don’t want that ever again on my blogs. I realy hope for the next update it will be removed from WordPress and forgotten.

When Classic editor gets activated, gutenberg gets deactivated.

The question is not about deactivation but removal.

It’s part of the Core 5.0

That is very sad then I hope WordPress will see their mistake and remove it for verion 5.1 or if not possible 6.0

Gutenberg is here to stay in 5.0 +

You have two choices. One is to revert to 4.9.8. The other is to do a Google search on “classicpress” and follow the links.

The first option is what I suggest for the time being. Last month I set up client sites to block core updates to keep them on 4.9.8 until at least a couple bugfix versions in the 5.x branch have been released. I also know that more than one hosting company did similar things in the past couple months with their one-click WP installs.

The second option (a fork of WordPress) is probably your longterm solution. I suspect this also applies to many long-term WP users who feel that WP5.0 is a step backwards.

Me? I think Gutenberg is a potentially-brilliant product, but for some reason it was rushed out the door, and its reputation is suffering as a result if it being so buggy. WordPress has traditionally been very good at releasing stable versions, and 5.0 is its first true “not stable” release. It will be interesting to see how Automattic deals with it. ??

Today I tried to start a new website… when I do this I always get the newest version of WP (5.0.3) and then the latest DIVI, which I love.

Now I hear that it was WP who removed the normal way of posting and building.

What was the purpose of this?

The new builder looks like you can only put blog posts up with a sidebar. How can you make wide pages with sliders etc? It is totally horrible.

Whatever possessed you to ruing WORDPRESS? If Gutenberg is here to stay, WP will be dead in a year.

Please stop ‘improving’ things that work flawlessly.

    Where can I get v 4.9.8 WP???

I noticed that most sites I have were already updated automatically to WP v4.9.9 which is the last advanced version until it went to the simple blog post block editor that WP has decided to devolved into, doesn’t allow sliders or anything special, doesn’t help us advanced people at all. Still puzzled as to the purpose of this?

I downloaded a nice plugin called Easy Updates and you can block 5.0.x from accidentally being installed… because if it you, you will lose the ability to work with advanced designs.

I’m posting here to put my vote in about the new editor. I don’t want it, either. I just went into my blog to make a post and encountered this editor. It’s actually slowing me down and not just because I’m unfamiliar with it. Please make the new editor an optional plugin and RESTORE the previous editor to its official status.

For now the best thing is to use WP 4.9.9 (they offer all past versions to download)

They say they won’t auto-update you but just to be sure I installed the free “Easy Update” plugin to control that.

Then you can use whatever version of DIVI I guess…(not sure check that first) because it’s not DIVI that messed up, it’s www.ads-software.com programmers who thought they were doing us a favor? I don’t think so.

With Gutenberg, you will lose most of the functions you once had with the classic editor which was seamless… Gutenberg is just not worth it… looks and acts horrible as far as I’m concerned. (Sorry guys, but if it doesn’t enhance my experience or make my work go faster, it’s useless)
