• I have successvully installed the latest version of WP to my own web server (Ubuntu 8.04 as virtual server). Now I’d like to run autoupdates, plugin- and theme installs via Sftp. That’s a nice feature, and I’d like to run security updates that way.

I’m able to connect with Sftp clients successfully to my server and upload and download files. But WordPress says when I want to use the same data for automatic updates: “Can not connect with FTP-Server blah.de:21”. (message translated from german version).

    I’m trying this:
    Hostname: domain-name.de or domain-name.de:21/path/to/WordPres or domain-name.de
    FTP username: username
    FTP passwort: mypassword

The account has sufficent permissions. (It’s the owner of the linux directory.)

Something what is not clear for me: Do I have to ente a target directory? (The home directory of the user is “/home/bla” — maybe WordPress has a problem with a different home directory than the base of it’s installation?

Where can I see what is going wrong exactly?

Would be nice, if somebody has any idea.
    Bye

  • Can not connect with FTP-Server blah.de:21 ?
so you were not using any more SFTP, or secure FTP
Did you checked the right radio button ?
