How to control my site's "description" in google?

  • Hi guys, I need your help please.

    My site is on page 3 in google for keyword “get him back”. And, I really want to ‘control/choose’ the description of my site in google. My site description right now is:

    “So, do I still have a chance to get him back? It’s very probable to get your boyfriend back if you know how to do it. For now, just know that the … ”

    and I want it to change to:

    “What if the reason he gave you for the break up is not his real reason? I’m sure you know it’s easier to get him back if you know the truth. But, it’s…”

    because I really think it’s more compelling to click. I keep putting that very description in Platinum SEO Pack but it seems that it’s not working and the google still ‘randomly’ choose my description… I find it weird because I notice some of the website in the first page of my keyword(‘get him back’) can actually control their website description(such as the site on 1st spot: https://gethimbackguide.com/).

    Could someone teach me how to fix this? Thanks.

    The way Google does descriptions is different than that, When you search for something in Google the “description” is the sentences and phrases on that page that most likely hold what you are looking for. More than likely they can’t be changed.

    Untrue.

    You can change it via your meta description, or if that doesn’t work, plugin’s like Yoast’s WordPress SEO plugin can alter it for you.

    in the <head> section

    Note however that Google will only show this if it contains the search terms… Otherwise it will display a part of your site that does contain the search terms.

    Can i ask where should I insert that code, in the html of my post?

    That doesn’t go in the html of your post. it goes into the head section of your site.

    Since it would change on a per post/page basis, the easiest way to control it is with a plugin, as I’m assuming you’d like to do it without a lot of code.

    is my personal favourite, howevere there are many seo plugins if you look around

    They allow you to type in a description for each post. Or you can choose to just use the posts excerpt

    I tried Yoast and it “kinda” work but it’s not working exactly I want it too. The description I put in Yoast and the one I want to show in google is this:

    What if the reason he gave you for the break up is not his real reason? As you know… it’s tough to get him back if you don’t know the truth. Men will rarely…

    But, after my changes my description change to this:

    As you know… it’s tough to get him back if you don’t know the truth. Men will rarely give the real reasons because he knows it will hurt you.

    The “What if the reason he gave you for the break up is not his real reason?” wasn’t included. (w/c is the “warm up” of my advertisement^^) Could I fix this using Yoast? Or if not, could you guys please tell me if there’s any other method please? Thanks.

    the text you put into Yoast’s plugin should be exactly the text that gets included in the meta description…. Unless your theme is doing something bizarre….

    Did you copy/paste that 100% in the meta description for the post? Or are you letting it auto-generate the excerpt?

    This is what I put in my Yoast plug in right now.

    Meta Description:
    What if the reason he gave you for the break up is not his real reason? As you know… it’s tough to get him back if you don’t know the truth. Men will rarely give the real reasons because he knows it will hurt you. As you read every word of this article, you’ll find out the real reasons why men leave in a relationship.

    This is also what I put in my Platinum SEO Pack.

    What if the reason he gave you for the break up is not his real reason? As you know… it’s tough to get him back if you don’t know the truth. Men will rarely tell the real reasons because they are afraid it will hurt your feelings.

    I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong. That’s the change I did about 5 days ago. Yes, my description change but the part where it says “What if the reason he gave you for the break up is not his real reason?”(w/c it the critical part of my advertisement) is not being included when I look at my description in Google.

    Keep in mind that you might not see changes in Google immediately.

    Very true. You can test if it’s working by linking to your site in FB or G+.

    This post is a little old, but since it’s not closed I thought I’d add to the comments and hopefully it helps you:

    The description used for your site/page should NOT exceed 160 characters, if you want it to read in full in the Search Results Pages. I’ve found that using a few less than the prescribed 160 characters (157-158) works best.
