I’m not sure where to ask this question. In the documentation for the plug-in, https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/duplicate-post/ It talks about how they clone a post, make their changes, and “Once done, we copy everything back to the original post and delete the draft.”

How does one “copy everything back to the original post?” I’ve looked all around and can’t figure it out. Thanks for your help.

    Hi!

Do you mean the section this particular section:

What do people use the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin for?
A lot! Here at Yoast, it has become an integral part of our editorial workflow. We do a lot of content updates and we don’t like to work in the published version of the post. For big updates, we always make a copy. In that copy, we do our work — updating the content, replacing images and improving the SEO of articles. Once done, we copy everything back to the original post and delete the draft. Easy peasy!

You can clone or create a copy of a published post, and then edit the clone and make changes to the content as you see fit. Once you’re done, you can click on the 3 dots on the upper right-hand side and under the Tools sub-menu, there should be a ‘copy all content’ option. You can click on that and then go back to the original post and then paste the content there. You can then update the post and then delete the draft that was cloned once you’re content.

    We hope this helps!

That worked like a charm! Thanks!! Love this plugin even more than ever. ??

    Hi @cvswim,

That’s always great to hear! We’re marking this issue as resolved. You’re welcome to create a new issue if you need further assistance.

I’m looking for this option, too. But I can’t find “3 dots on the upper right-hand side” or a Tools sub-menu. At least not in classic editor. Can you post some screenshots?

Why not include a button in the publish metabox: “Merge back to original post” or “Publish & overwrite” meaning, the post/page will replace the published version. After all, duplicate-edit-publish should be the standard workflow for most users.
