how to creat a plugin

im a php programmer and im working with wordpress from a long time but i was always making php changes to the php files of the template directly but now my clients want it to be as a plugin to copy it and install anywhere they want
so i wonder how should i embed my php coeds to become a plugin in WordPress
is there any specific step that i should follow ??
