• When I say the words Page Template I think I mean something different than what WP defines it as, so just know that I am not talking WP lingo, I am talking in common vernacular for what a Page Template is.

What I want to know how to do is to create a web page as a template to be used to create other web pages that look the same, but with different content. Let me give you an example.

I have many pages like this and they are all formatted the same. The problem is that every time I want to create a new page, I have to start with a blank page and build the whole page from scratch. All want to do is change the images and the body text. This would be pretty simple if WP had a SAVE AS function. Then I could edit an existing page and then click SAVE AS a New Page and that would take care of it. But WP does not have a SAVE AS function.

Can someone tell me how to do what I want to do?

If you’re using the new block editor (gutenberg), you can do this with reusable blocks.

I know what you are saying. Print publishers refer to some of that as layout or paste-up style.

You can always create and save a draft post or page and semi flesh it out with tables… sections… images… blurbs… and paragraph placements. Using the classic editor you’d just copy the underlying html and ‘text’ then drop that on your new post or page.

Switch to visual and fill it in! Vary things a little to suit you and your visitor’s tastes… publish!

I’m also a fan of recycling older posts via automatic means.

This plugin will take the oldest post and repost it to your blog section as a new post. One a day or one every couple days should be fine and having a ‘style’ you adhere to will help keep your older posts from visually ‘jarring’ your readers.

You can use 301 redirects to maintain the SEO juice but if you don’t overdo things by recycling too often you could just let the older posts drop off to be replaced by the new actual duplicate and allow the chips to fall where they may.

I’m not real interested in SEO itself. If my Yoast SEO plugin isn’t fussing too much I just leave SEO be.

Thanks @jnashhawkins. I don’t know why I did not think of that. Just copy and paste the html. So simple.

It would still be great of wordpress add a “Save As” function (or Publish As New Post/Page). It’s not like this function has not been a part of basic computing since the dinosaurs roamed the earth.
