How to create a “read more” on wordpress default theme?

    I am using this theme: WordPress Default 1.6 by Michael Heilemann

    I would like to add the excerpt function with a “read more” capability. I tried to follow these instructions just to enable the excerpt function but it did not work (https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Template_Tags/the_excerpt)

    Anyone know how I can add a post with a “read more” functionalitz for WordPress Defaults theme?

    Oh, and I use wordpress 2.6.1

    The WordPress Default theme already does this without any changes. Just insert <!--more--> quicktag (from your tool bar above the post box) into your post.
