How to create galleries?

    The galleries on that demo site are configured with the portfolio. Each image is a link to an individual portfolio item.

    Does that make sense?

    Oh, so these galleries are only available when you use the portfolio? You can only create regular galleries on normal pages?

    Yeah, at least with that style gallery. The premium theme comes with a lot more options for regular galleries, but for the free, using the portfolio is the only option for getting a gallery of that style.
