• I’m using WordPress 6.0 and Weaver xtreme 5.0.7. I have a dropdown on my menu bar now, which I created several years ago, that opens a list of pages to choose from. I want to create another one and I can’t find a way to do it. Both WordPress and Weaver xtreme have been updated since I made the first one, WordPress several times. I have tried everything I can find. Instructions I’ve found by Googling talk about nesting pages under other pages, but I don’t want that, I just want a menu bar entry that opens a list of pages and does nothing else. Seems like it should be simple, and I think it was simple when I did it before. I’m wondering if the functionality was lost or moved somewhere obscure in one or another update. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I think you’re misinterpreting what the instructions are saying. They’re not saying you should create a parent-child relationship for your pages. Rather, you’re to go to APPEARANCE => MENUS and add your list of pages to your menu in a nested outline form, like shown below.

To get the outline/nesting, you need to drag any page that you want to appear in a drop-down list to the right, so it becomes “nested” under the main menu item. And note that you can nest anything under anything: you can even link to external websites, and still have the link appear nested under one of the pages/posts/categories/anything on your site (that’s why I said earlier you don’t need to create any parent-child relationship for the pages.)

And I’ve tested the latest version of your theme with WordPress 6.0, and the process hasn’t changed.

    Good luck!

Thank you, George, for your very clear response. I still have a problem, but this narrows it down a lot. In the screen you’ve shown, I should be able to add a menu bar item by adding a custom link, yes? And then I can nest pages under it. When I try to do that, I can’t add it without entering a URL. But I don’t have a URL, and I don’t want it to link to anything–just open the menu. Is there something I should enter in that field?

The Custom Link dropdown that I already have is “Understanding Money.” When I expand/open the settings, the URL field is blank, in fact all fields are blank except Navigation Label.

I’m wondering now if I have some sort of corruption. Now that I think of it I’ve been seeing some random error messages, like these two on my widgets page.

“The “recent-posts” block was affected by errors and may not function properly. Check the developer tools for more details.”
“The “text” block was affected by errors and may not function properly. Check the developer tools for more details.”

(I don’t know what developer tools they’re talking about.)

Do I need to reinstall Weaver xtreme maybe?

Just put # in the URL field.

If you don’t like the idea of using the dummy link URL # that goes nowhere, navigate to the follow theme options screen:

Appearance => Customize => Custom Menus Content (SP) => Primary Menu.

From here, you’ll see a similar menu outline as APPEARANCE => MENUS, except that when adding a custom link, you can leave the URL field completely blank (tested).

“The “recent-posts” block was affected by errors and may not function properly. Check the developer tools for more details.”

Where are you seeing the error message? Can you provide a full-page screenshot, please? https://snipboard.io/

George, Thank you so much! Entering # worked and my menu is all good now. I’m sorry if that’s something everyone but me already knew–I didn’t know you could do that. I tried going through the Customized screen as you describe and on my installation, the blank URL field isn’t accepted there either.

Here’s the screen shot of the error messages in the Widgets screen: https://snipboard.io/QoxwDH.jpg It comes up like that when I open the screen before I even try to do anything, and it doesn’t always reference the same blocks.

    Thanks again

About the error messages in the Widgets screen: I did some exploring and found there were some legacy widgets stored under Inactive. After I converted or deleted those, the errors stopped.
