How to create test site?

  • I am trying to create a test WP site to mimic my live site. I have installed WP into a new folder called test, then I copied all my files from the WP live folder to test, I changed on host server home and url in wp-options on test WP to point to test url.

    But when I go to the home page for test site, I get 404 Not Found and the Home button takes me to the live site.

    Any ideas?

  • Why not set everything up locally for testing? The subdomain route will be a bit different in regards to URL’s and then you’d have two WP installs on the same host (not that its an issue, it can just get messy).
