Hello. I created the wp-google-maps folder for the map markers XML file in my uploads folder in cPanel and I inserted the proper file path in the XML menu in the Advanced Settings tab. Here’s the thing. I don’t get an error message, but when I load a map, the map markers aren’t showing up. I really need to load the map markers from an XML file rather than the database because loading from the XML file is much faster and doesn’t slow down my page load speed as much. Can someone please help me resolve this issue?

  • Hi there

How many markers are you loading on your map? If it’s less than 2 500, it won’t make much of a difference between using the XML or Database method to display your markers.

Please go to the map editor and press ‘Save’ map after that folder has been created. If the markers still don’t show after this, please send me a link to your map so that I can look into this for you?

Hello, Jarryd. Thanks for the reply. I have over 100 maps. When I switch from database to XML in the Advanced Settings tab and then go to the back end of my maps, none of the markers show up on the map, even though my marker icons show up in the list below the map. I even tried editing one of the map listings by saving it and the marker still didn’t show up on the map. When I switch back to database, all the map markers on all my maps show up again. That’s why I am wondering what I am doing wrong and why my map marker icons don’t show up on any of my maps when I switch to XML.

    Hi there

Please change over to the XML method and send me a link to your map where the markers aren’t showing so that I can look into this for you?

Sure thing. None of my maps are showing any of the map markers on the map when I switch over to XML, but I will send you the links to two of the maps so you can see what I am talking about.

Here is the link to the webpage showing the map for esthetician schools in West Virginia (located at the bottom of the page):

    https://www.estheticianschooling.com/esthetician-schools-in-west-virginia/

Here is the webpage containing the map (all the way at the bottom) for the location of all the licensing exam centers in Alabama:

    https://www.estheticianschooling.com/how-to-become-a-licensed-esthetician-in-alabama/

As you can see, the map marker icons show up in the list underneath the map, but not on the map itself. Every single map on my website exhibits this same behavior when I switch to XML.

If you guys could fix this ASAP that would be great, because my website is live.

    Hi @filmguy2013

It appears the plugin is referencing the XML files to estheticianschooling.com while the site loads with www.estheticianschooling.com by default. As a result of this, a JS error is thrown and the map’s functionality is affected.

Please go to ‘Settings’ -> ‘General’ and ensure that your URL paths both point to the www. URL of your site.

Then go to ‘Maps’ -> ‘Settings’ -> ‘Advanced Settings’ and ensure the URL to the XML file matches (with the www. in front of the URL)

    I hope this helps?

That fixed it! For anyone else that may come across this problem, all I had to do was go to Maps/Settings/Advanced, then click XML File and when “Marker data XML Url:” showed up, I added the www. in front of my domain name in the file path and clicked “Save Settings” and when I refreshed the webpage, the map markers showed up and the webpage even loads faster now, which is why I wanted to use XML instead of the database.

Jarryd, thank you so much for your help!

So glad to hear that helped! Just shout if there’s anything else I can assist with ??

If you ever have a minute to spare, please consider reviewing the plugin on https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/wp-google-maps/reviews/. It would mean the world to me ??
