• I’ve just installed my blog, and I’m trying to customize my theme. Right now, I’m using Carrington Blog, as it comes closest to what I want.

I want to keep it simple and plain, a plain white page with black/gray-range type, with a customized header graphic designed in Photoshop with my blog title and subtitle in it, without system text superimposed, and perhaps change some colors here or there. Carrington Blog comes closest to this, but I want to replace the masthead graphic and remove a few graphics I don’t want to include. Until now, I’ve worked strictly in straight html on static Web pages, and have absolutely zero knowledge or experience with CSS.

How do I do things like:
-replace the current masthead graphic with my own?
-reset the default typeface to one I prefer?
    -create a menu bar?

I’d prefer any answers or advice via email if possible, as I don’t spend a lot of time hanging out in forums.

    Thanks in advance,

  • Carrington probably isn’t the best theme to start customising if you’re new to them development generally. It’s a complex theme. It does have it’s own web site, though.

Actually, I’ve since switched to Tressimple, but I’m still running into the same problem. The layout is simple enough — two columns, right sidebar, no fancy design or graphics — but I’m running into the same customization issues. I just want to do some simple tweaks, like the custom-designed masthead graphic, and some typeface changes, but all the solutions in the forums — not to mention the code itself — are making my brain explode.

I really don’t want to do any “development”; I don’t want to play with code, I just want to do a few simple tweaks and get on with the blogging. I’ve just switched to Tressimple, but I’m running into the same issues. I’m totally brand-new to WP and CSS — and blogging, for that matter — and I can’t seem to find anything in the forums here with simple instructions for total CSS n00bs like myself.

    Thanks.

These will require some CSS editing at the very least but, if you take them 1 step at a time, they should be do-able.

Start with posting a link to your site and an explanation of what you want to do first.
