• i know you can do it through phpmyadmin, but is there an easier way? i mean, we should be able to do it through WP control panel as easily as you can add users. i noticed i couldn’t do this when i imported a friend’s Blogger posts into WP and she had a couple users and now she just wants to be the only one. thanks in advance.
btw, i’m running 1.2 epsilon and there’s no delete user functionality in that release.

  • hi
in my nightly you have to go to users panel
and keep clicking on the minus sign by the user level
when it’s down to level 0 it will be in a separate table
and then you can delete the user
it will delete all that users posts too
so if you want to keep the posts you can leave the user at level 0 but they won’t be able to post at that level
at least…that’s what it is in mine.

    Lilandra! this works! thanks!
the only problem i have with this is that if the user is deleted and it has some entries tied to it, it deletes those entries, too… at least that’s what the warning says. i don’t really like that. fortunately, i was able to delete users that had no posts tied to them so i was safe in that respect.
on a related note, as an admin (level 10), how can i change the profile information for my members? it looks like i have to be signed on as the member in order to change the info. i should be able to do it as the admin.

waterlily, the admin cannot change users’ profile through the interface, for the basic reason that the profile belongs to the user.
You could do it directly in the db, but then again, that’s not the perfect solution.

abt the posts of the users: i think if you leave them at level 0 they can’t post…all they can do is modify their profile and view the site! so that’s almost as if they were deleted..

Hi . I just recieved an email saying that there was a new registered user on my account. I didn’t realize that the button for ANYONE CAN REGISTER was clicked on my site. How did this person register? Do they know my password and can they now post?

I want to be the only one to have access to my blog. Should I just delete the user. I’m not really sure hwat’s going on. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Denzola, I’m pretty new but I think a new registrant is emailed a randomly-generated password especially for their use, so no, I don’t think they have access except to comment on your blog. If you don’t want them to even be able to comment, I think you go into admin and delete a user. It says it will delete them and all their posts.

Take my words with a grain, I could be very wrong. Anyone else?

ASIDE: I have been wondering myself if, when a new user registers, and suppose they then change their password, is there anyway for me to keep them off my blog IF for some reason I really didn’t want them to comment, ever? Just askin’.

    Thanks!

A newly registered user will have a User Level of 0 and can only see the Dashboard and his/her profile. More info: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/User_Levels
