• We are looking to transfer our website from godaddy and plesk to bluehost. The website is currently infected with malware. Ths is preventing all access to website and wordpress dashboard. How can I delete the wordpress site before I transfer domain to bluehost? I am somewhat an amateur at this so any help would be greatly aprreciated. We are a small rock and gem club and would really like to get back to a position to begin rebuilding our site. Thanks in advance.

I would wait until the new site is fully set up before deleting the database and files related to the old site.

If your website is currently hosted by GoDaddy, ask GoDaddy support about the best way to completely close out your webhosting account (if that is your intention)

Otherwise, your site is made up of a database and files. You could delete the files (plugins, theme, uploads) and the database (pages, posts, users, etc). The files and database are stored in your webhosting account.

I'm sorry to hear that your website is infected with Malware(my website was also infected with malware but I stand out by following below steps, this is my website if you wanna check it), but I can certainly guide you through the process of cleaning it up and then transferring it from GoDaddy to Bluehost. Here are the steps you can follow:

Backup Your Website: Before doing anything, it's essential to backup your website. If you have access to the WordPress dashboard, you can use a plugin like UpdraftPlus or use the backup feature in your Plesk control panel if available. If not, you might need to ask your hosting provider (GoDaddy) for a backup.

Isolate Your Infected Site: Since your site is infected with malware, you should isolate it from your current server. This can prevent further damage. You can do this by creating a subdirectory in your hosting account and moving your infected WordPress site into it.

Scan and Clean Malware: Install a security plugin like Wordfence or Sucuri Security on your infected WordPress site. Run a scan to identify and remove malware. These plugins can guide you through the process.

Change Passwords: Change your WordPress admin, FTP, and database passwords to ensure that the attackers no longer have access.

Update WordPress and Plugins: Ensure that WordPress and all plugins and themes are up to date. Outdated software is more vulnerable to malware attacks.

Remove Suspicious Files: Manually inspect your website's files and database for suspicious code or files that don't belong. Pay attention to the wp-content/uploads directory.

Check User Accounts: In the WordPress admin, check if there are any unfamiliar user accounts. Delete any that you didn't create.

Install a Security Plugin: After cleaning the malware, install a security plugin like Wordfence, Sucuri Security, or iThemes Security to help protect your site from future attacks.

Prepare for the Transfer: Back up your clean website again. Make note of your DNS settings if your domain is registered with GoDaddy. Ensure you have your Bluehost account set up.

Transfer to Bluehost: In Bluehost, you can use the WordPress migration feature or use a plugin like "All-in-One WP Migration" to import your site. Point your domain's DNS to Bluehost. You can do this in your GoDaddy account by updating the nameservers.

Test Your Site: Once the domain has propagated (this may take some time), test your site on Bluehost to ensure everything is working correctly.

Regular Backups and Security: Going forward, set up regular backups and keep your WordPress and plugins up to date to prevent future infections.

If you're not comfortable with these technical steps, you might want to consider hiring a professional or seeking assistance from Bluehost's support. They often provide services to help migrate your website and assist with malware removal.
