• I am fairly new to wordpress and recently built a site. I created a admin account for a coder to help migrate the site. I am confused, because all users have the “edit” | “delete” option under them. The admin account i gave to the coder does not have the “delete” option. is there a reason this would happen and how? Does this happen by default or did the coder change things?
Is there a way to fix this? or delete that user.

Thank you very much for any help and insight.

  • You have to have another admin account before you can delete the last one. Otherwise you would be unable to make changes.

Are you logged in at admin level yourself. If nothing else you can change his access rights lower.

    Thank you,
I have the original admin that was created when I first made the site and i created another for the coder. And even the other admin i created for another admin user has the delete option under it.

Is your account currently set for admin? It might have been changed by your coder. Also is this a multisite WP install? If so your coder might have “super-admin” rights.

yes it is set to admin, and i can also adjust the role. But for the admin i created for him i can not even adjust the role.
-This is for just one website.

And even the other admin i created for another admin user has the delete option under it.

Does this person have the ability to delete the coder or change his role?

You can remove him in the database.

I was going to suggest that next, but DB’s are tricky.

I am not sure if that ability was set, i used the default admin option when i created it. I set admin access so he could migrate the site.
I have access to that login and through his account, but I am not able to delete it but the option to edit or delete other users is there.
Is there a way to create “super-admin” within a single site?
Could that have been done through back end coding?

Database? so he went through the back so that i couldn’t delete the user i created. Is there a reason for doing that?
also if i can change the password would that do anything?

All users are in the DB, that is what kmessinger is suggesting. Super-admin is a admin level for multi-site wp not regular installs. If you cannot delete the coder by any other means, then you will have to delete him on the DB (be careful doing this). Changing his PW will only work if you can disable PW resets, otherwise he can just reset his PW, although changing his email may slow him down.

I am not sure HOW or IF he actually managed to block his account from being deleted. That would be far above my abilities, although I wouldn’t mind knowing how it was done.

He can access the database through the wp- admin?

Sounds intense and since i am not too familiar with the DB seems like many things could go wrong.

But if i could some how learn how to do this, is there a place to find such details?

    Thank you for the insight.

Depending on who the host is, someone there might be able to help.
