HOW To Design for Template Changes

    I am new to WordPress and need some advice.

    I have an existing website that I added a WordPress blog to about a year and a half ago. At that time I found a nice template and purchased it. I needed to update the look of my site so I purchased the new template but the data from the old site does not match without some work. I realize logos and the extra custom features but looks like I have a lot of work to do in order to update to a new template.

    My original idea of using WordPress was to seperate the data from the design so I could easily update any website by buying a new template.

    Is each template so custom that I will not be able to do this?
