Newbie themer here. I’ve inherited an old site with a custom FoundationPress-based theme and am hoping to make some frontend layout changes. FoundationPress is no longer maintained and my site’s custom theme hasn’t been updated in at least 6 years. It still looks ok.

Can anyone please advise how best to develop this theme?

I think I need a CSS framework? (I’ve never used one, but am keen to learn. I can write HTML and CSS.)

I’ve thought of these 3 options:
    1) Give up on the Foundation-Press-based custom theme and start again based on a current, supported theme.

    2) Use Bootstrap to develop the old custom theme, as advised by the theme developer Ole Fredrik on Github.

    3) Use Foundation to develop the old custom theme. But I wonder why this wasn’t advised by Ole Fredrik?

This is my first attempt at WP theming. I’ve set up a staging site.

    Grateful for any advice.

Looking OK and working securely may be two different things. I’d go for your first choice. Rebuild the site using a current, supported theme.

I hadn’t thought of security, but that makes it an easy choice – I will take your advice, thank you!
