How to "Different language in backend and frontend"

  • Hi, I am a bit confused in the language localization.

    My client asked me to have en_GB in admin panel in backend, and zh_TW in frontend. So in my point,

    • It is about to have all the site language .mo in zh_TW.
    • And admin mo in en_GB.

    But after some test, I found sometimes the language in frontend appears in en_GB not zh_TW.

    Did I do the right setting?

  • zh_TW will only appear on the front-end if the string is translated to zh_TW in the ‘.po'/.mofiles. If the string is not translated, the default language of the content will still be displayed. Since most plugins and themes are written in English, that will be usuallyen. Make sure the non-translated content appears in thezh_TW.po` file and has been translated.

    If the content doesn’t appear, you’ll need to add it and then translate it. Also remember that the content needs to be <em>translatable</em> for WordPress to be able to use the translation. While most plugins and themes use the __() or _e() correctly, some may not. For example, for a string to translatable it needs to be wrapped in the coding of the theme or plugin like so:
    __('String to translate.', 'myplugin');
