How to display author photo and byline

I am using Woo Themes Fresh News Theme to build a site with multiple post authors and I am trying to accomplish two tasks:

1. Include an author byline — i.e., “By John Smith” — beneath the headline of every post. I would like the author’s name to link to the author profile page.

2. Display an author photo in the author bio that is displayed at the end of every post and display the same photo on the author profile page. By default, the author bio displays the author’s gravatar and there is no photo on the author profile page.

I have installed the User Photo plugin and uploaded photos for each author in the Users section, where both a full-size and a thumbnail version of the photo is generated.

I’ve been at this for days with no luck. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. If the solution is to insert code, can you please provide very specific instructions as to where to place it in a template? Thanks.
