How to display images based on Media Library tags

    Hi:

    I’m looking for a way to display images on the front end of my site based on Media Library tags and am hoping you can help or suggest a solution.

    I’m creating a site wikiclothes.com that’s an image based knowledgebase. It will be an extension of my current site theclothingvault.com

    Based on certain search keywords, image tags, etc, a number of images would be displayed dynamically. Similar to how a stock photography site is set up with the exception that nothing is for sale.

    Just like shutterstock.com, when an individual image is clicked a page opens showing additional information about the image as well.

    The problem I’m running into is that there doesn’t seem to be a way to individually tag these images through the main gallery or portfolio plugins.

    Further, I already have my images tagged, description, title and alt tags added to the images on the computer. So, in an ideal world I’d just upload them and your plugin would be configured to read that data, map the fields, and (if this is possible) create a post page that would display both the image as well as the descriptive data.

    Does this make sense, and is there a way you know of to accomplish this?

    Thanks for your questions and for the details you provided on your application concept. MLA has a number of features you can use to develop your application.

    MLA supports WordPress taxonomies that allow you to assign categories and tags to your Media Library items. Once that’s done, the [mla_gallery]` shortcode has a number of features for composing a gallery display based on a selection of taxonomy terms. Here is one recent topic along similar lines; it contains links to additional topics as well:

    MLA also has a number of features that extract IPTC/EXIF/XMP metadata from image files and uses it to populate standard fields like Title, Caption, ALT Text and Description as well as taxonomy terms and custom fields. I am confident you will find a way to extract the data, populate WordPress fields and compose galleries and pages that display the results in a way that works for your application.

    Hi David:

    Thank you for your fast response. I’ve gone over the topics and the instructions provided in the plugin, and find it might be a bit more complicated a task than I am comfortable with.

    Do you have any recommendations of someone I could hire to set this up as I’ve described above? I’ve spoken with a few implementers and developers, but so far none of my contacts have the ability to tackle this.

    Thanks for your update and for taking the time to research the suggestions I outlined.

    I do not have any specific recommendations for WordPress development assistance, but I know there are WordPress Support Groups throughout the country and abroad. For example, here is one in Oakland, CA:
