• Hi all,

Please advise how to download WordPress websites from Godaddy server to Oracle VMs on my desktop PC.

Websites hosted on Godaddy – Linux, domains and sub-domains
Desktop PC – Host Ubuntu 16.04 desktop
    – VMs, Ubuntu 16.04 desktop
    – Virtualizer – Oracle Virtualbox

I did that before via FileZilla, about 10 years ago and the download websites are still running on VMs of my desktop PC. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the relevant documents on my database. I have about 40 websites, all hosted on Godaddy server, but not all download to one VM, about 3~4 websites on one VM.

On local browser the websites can be browsed running “localhost/domain” (or sub-domain). On remote browser (in my case, on Host browser) they can be browsed running “internal-ip/domain (or sub-domain). They are still working but I haven’t updated them for long time.

I don’t know whether there are new methods for downloading them to VMs on my desktop PC? Kindly advise. Pointers would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Regards

  • There is only ONE “000-default.conf” file on /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/

Yes, there is one file, it can contain the configuration blocks for LOTS of websites, all working independently. If the a file gets too difficult to manage then you can create more files like “001-default.conf” and “002-default.conf” etc.

    Please confirm:
    – you have site address and wordpress address set to: “https://cuisine.satimis.com”
    – you browse the site from: https://localhost/cuisine
Please, please don’t reply till you have checked these two datum.
Then go into one of the pages with your browser inspector and give me the whole line that loads the “style.css” file.

    Hi Long Nguyen and Keith,

    Based on your suggestions recommending using WordPress plugin, finally I found following Youtube;
How To BackUp Or Migrate Your WordPress Website 2018

“All-in-One WP Migration” is a wonderful plugin with a few clicks the website can be export completely as a file “xxx.20180311-042440-412.wpress”, including the database. Also with a few clicks the “xxx.20180311-042440-412.wpress” file can be imported completely on local PC. Then the website can be run locally on browser with internal-IP. Also the website can be browsed remotely with internal-IP (in my case, on Host browser), without problem.

I have tested it. It worked without problem. In future I don’t need running local websites as backup. After testing the exported “xxx.20180311-042440-412.wpress” file on VM, I can delete the VM just keeping the exported “xxx.20180311-042440-412.wpress” file. In case of problem encountered on Godaddy Server I just import the aforesaid file to their server. This arrangement helps me saving lot of hard-drive space on local PC and labour as well.

    Hi Ross,

Sorry to keep you waiting, returning you a late reply.

My configuration may be different from yours, only one “001-default.conf” file. It was already 10 years ago. I couldn’t recall exactly.

    Please confirm:
    – you have site address and wordpress address set to: “https://cuisine.satimis.com”
    – you browse the site from: https://localhost/cuisine

    It is absolutely correct.
