Hi, I am very new to WordPress and this is my first post.
I am creating a page (the one and only page now on my site) but I realise that this is not the same page that you come to when visiting my site.
Only after logging in does my Page show.
This is not the way I want it – I want users to arrive at the front page immediately, and stay there after they log in.
So can I edit the index page? I cant see it on my dashboard..

My page is not a blog, and will have static pages, no posts from me and no comments. (I have no use for the bloggish features in WP)

    Thanks!
    Frederick

Create two pages – one for your home page and one for your blog section (perhaps called news?) go to settings -> reading and set front page to display a static page. Then select your home page & blog page from the drop downs.
