  • in wp-admin you may go to
appearance->editor-> under templates select your used template->click on footer.php to open the file in editor. and finally search for 1978 to 2011 … and finally update file…

before editing copy content of your file to an textexditor on you computer… so in worst case you can recover your footer.php

    Thank you – I hope it’s useful …

Just want to thank you for your helpful answer! I was trying to edit the footer on our custom designed site (spent many frustrating hours trying to figure out where the code was “hidden”)until I thought “Why not ask WordPress for advice?”. Found your explanation and it allowed me to do it perfectly – and I’m not the web site guru, just the non-technical admin+++ person in our 2 person business!

    Wonderful! Thanks again.

I tried doing this on my end and when I go into the footer.php, there is no number to update. Our website currently displays ?2012 and we need to update to ?2013. Also, I’m trying to update the copyright date on a pop up Important Disclaimers and Info menu that we display on all of our blog posts and can’t figure out where to go to edit that either. Please help!

@rmaner – please start your own thread – this one is outdated and not all themes are designed the same way.
